Avatar-Ansel.png

Ansel Oarland

Despite much of what life had thrown at her and her brother, Ansel had found renewed purpose and drive when they were taken into Dundee's space pirate crew as the bunch were looting the remains of their war-torn world.

Though she seems brash and hot-headed, Ansel never charges into a fray without knowing that she will see it through to the intense and bloody end, and despite her seemingly-reactive nature, she possesses a strong sense of responsibility for those she works with and cares for.

Renault Oarland

Ansel's older brother, Renault was the last to see their parents alive. Their world fell under attack after a cease-fire was broken, and Renault kept running as he was told to until he completely lost sight of them, never to see them again.

Though that put a permanent scar on his mind, Renault remained determine to be strong for his younger sister, even leaning into his otherwise playfully aloof personality to attempt staying positive.

Steve Tenebres

The only one of the Calypso crew to actually be from Earth, Steve was born into a French family that migrated to Ireland during his early childhood. Most of his early childhood memories are from after his family moved, so he grew up surrounded more by Irish culture.

In his late teenage years, Steve enlisted in the army, becoming a field medic. After having been deployed and seeing his fair share of action, the horrors of war broke his spirit and left him with little more than a cynical outlook on life.

Having joined Dundee's crew after being extended an invitation when he was drinking himself stupid in a pub, he found new purpose and quickly became friends with Renault, who was one of few to appreciate Steve's more grounded view on everything.

Scrib

His name being a shortened version of "Scribbles" - given to him by Ansel who found it adorable to see him excitedly writing his thoughts on the holo-tablet given to him (since his species cannot speak), Scrib is the first Noa to have been seen in eons, given that the race was known to have been long extinct. Scrib himself does not know where he came from, nor does he know what the secret is that he harbors in the core of his being.

Spending most of his life in a capsule being monitored by Dr. Tremaine, Scrib retains a child-like innocence that highlights his gentle nature, finding himself easily fascinated and curious about new people and new things. However, he is haunted by nightmares of the Void and seems to possess an unnatural reservoir of instinctive knowledge and prowess that even he doesn't fully understand.

Dr. Dean Tremaine

Dean spent most of his early career working as a prison medic for different facilities before his time with Folken Detention Center began. Not knowing at the time that the prison was secretly on the payroll of mafia boss Forte, Tremaine's talents for his work quickly earned him the candidacy for when Forte got his hands on a believed-to-be-long-extinct Noa specimen that possessed knowledge "of extremely high value".

Having to study archaeological journals and research notes to even know where to begin, Dean had to crash-course himself on an understanding of Noa anatomy and physiology so as to keep his new charge in good health. Over time, he developed a sort of surrogate-father bond with the specimen.

Dean does have a sense of confidence in his areas of expertise, but is otherwise a timid man with a tendency to scare easily.

Ambrosia Holtz

The Oarland siblings had one childhood friend from their old world who did make it through the ravaging war that tore the planet apart - the eccentric Ambrosia Holtz. Almost the same age as Ansel, Ambrosia's more unique personality led her to have few social connections (due to her proclivity for vulgarity and seemingly dismissive attitude toward social cues and norms), though it's not as though she needed them.

Ambrosia's fascination with all things tech and information led her to pursue, in her adult years, a secluded world to live on and set up base in order to establish herself as a collector of intelligence. Ansel and Renault kept in touch once they caught up with her, after joining Dundee's crew.

Captain Vanessa Dundee

The Dundee family is made up of generations of space pirate captains, keeping command over the formidable mothership, The Revenant. Vanessa's father commanded the crew before passing away and passing his station to her, during her late teenage years. The tutelage of her father taught her the importance of maintaining the balance between being respected and being feared and - to that end - Vanessa herself built a far more widespread reputation for having the loving respect of her crew while being well capable of ruthlessness when she feels those measures are necessary.

Most who have never met her will find her difficult to read, as she maintains an air of confidence and authority, wearing the same facial expression whether she is about to help you or kill you. Every decision she must make she does with well-being of her people in the forefront of her mind, though it is always wise to bear in mind that she will accomplish her goal by any means necessary.

Gustave

Belonging to the Tow'ldon species, Gustave's appearance is as curious as his personality - as he appears like an anthropomorphic white squid pretending to be human. Furthermore, his name can't be pronounced in any human tongue, leading to his acquaintances calling him "Gustave" because of his fascination for French culture and culinary styles. His kitchen skills are unparalleled which has easily found him work for many functions - mostly for criminal organizations, including mafia boss Forte and Captain Dundee's crew.

Gustave's personality is not without its own quirks, as he maintains an almost monotone and seemingly disregarding tone in his voice - despite whatever emotion he may be feeling. He also has a notorious fascination with all things sensual, and is known to be a bit..."oncoming" - openly and brazenly flirting or groping when the mood strikes him, regardless of gender or species.

Maxwell

Among the ranks of Overture - the secret sect of Rukian operatives unofficially answering to the High Council of Rukai - is a lone Rukian man who acts as an independent entity - though his actions are always on Overture's behalf. This man goes by the name of Maxwell.

Maxwell appears to be a fairly unassuming man, dressed and conducting himself as a business professional, though his congenial demeanor makes him seem approachable, it is nothing more than a mask to cover over an otherwise ruthless, calculated force to be reckoned with, resorting to sabotage and murder to accomplish what needs to be done.

Sirius

A character who was present for both "The Adventures of Hoshima" and this story as well, Sirius is a longstanding commander within Overture, being one of the elite chosen when an Overture operation requires muscle. She is a devout believer in Overture's creed of seeking out artifacts and information that can pose a grave threat to all life, even to the point of believing in Overture's under-handed methods of the ends justifying the means.

Though she herself is certainly a formidable soldier, she retains her own personal code that she lives by, and is sometimes seen as slightly aloof for her more philosophical - if not poetic - manner of speaking.
